VSCO is a free photo editing and sharing app that attracts users range from amateur to professional. It offers free and paid filters; additionally, a community that connects its talented users with their followers and brands. Its high artistic quality filters are popular among the mobile photo editing lovers, and there are more than 50,000,000 installations alone through Google Play Store.
VSCO mainly targeted to young adults that age from 19 to 29 and number of brands including Nike, Timberland, and Strava. According to Marty Swant from ADWEEK, 73% of VSCO’s users are under age 25; Generation Z made up 75% of these users and it is still the fastest growing segment in 2018. According to Similar Web, 16.7% of VSCO users have Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, and Facebook accounts; and 16.5% of them also download other photo editing tools, such as Snapseed and PicsArt Photo Studio. These audiences are heavy users of social media who frequently use their mobile device to take, to edit and to share their photos; and they think VSCO’s filters and the freedom to edit was far beyond other apps had offered.
After the introduction of the app, pictures on Instagram looked nothing like pictures taken from a mobile phone. Slowly there was this sudden burst of hashtags that associate with VSCO, and it easily became the most used hashtags on Instagram. These proud VSCO’s users also use it as a platform for showcasing their contents, expressing themselves, and supporting talent around the world.
